On Adventuring

I’m now firmly into my summer adventure. I am still at my first adopted home and there Is a birthday today, a 13th birthday. I have been taking various photos today in order to make a record of my summer adventures. I plan on writing a poem or song, and setting it to music, but all in the fullness of time.

I’m away to Manchester tomorrow, an in-between point for where I am now, and where I will be next. My poor shinymac is in need of a visit to the computer doctors, and so The apple store shall be visited.

I am having fun so far, but I am rather missing my S, and it will be the 29th before I see him again.

Yes this indeed my 42n’t posting here on this bloggy thing.

And yes I am still hopeless at it.

I’m not charming and witty, I cannot tell you cute baby stories or have you rolling around the floor amidst gales of laughter at my latest antics.

But I’m here, and for mow, that will need to be enough.

Now if you will excuse me I’m going to sit and look forlornly at the mountain of stuff that needs to be moved to Temporary Storage Area A within the next week, And look at my walls all bare without my posters and other detritus.

I’m probably not going to be around much for a while. So enjoy what is left of the summer.

On performing

So the performance dates for the Dundee Scout Gangshow are fast approaching. I’m still not sure how I feel about being on-stage again after almost 4 years (I can’t believe it has been that long) especially as it feels as though we have barely rehearsed at all. Yes 7.45-9.30 pm most Sunday evenings since November, but there is just so much stuff in the show. Sitting and listening to the CD with all of the music for the show on it and even I with my stupidly good music memory am having trouble remembering all the words. My friends in the Aberdeen Gangshow rehearse for 4 hours each week, and actually have the songs being sung on their CD’s as opposed to just the music (hmm helpful guys)!!

This Sunday will be the real test of the show as we are doing a full run through with no scripts or songbooks. (another of my quibbles, either let me learn it by listening, or give me the score! not just the words!) and hopefully it will be almost ready for the 4th April. The show is running from the 4th-9th April and there are still plenty of tickets left. Come and see what will hopefully be a good gang show.

On Scouting

Tomorrow is February 22nd, an important day in Scouting History. It is Founders day. Lord Baden Powell celebrated his birthday on this day and so Scouting continues to celebrate his birthday and that of Lady Baden Powell who founded the Guiding association.

When were were schoolchildren my friends and I would turn up on the 22nd in our Brownie or Cub uniforms. I Might take it upon myself to wear my Scouts neckerchief or maybe even my camp blanket to university. And I would probably get some funny looks.

It wouldn’t bother me though, I am proud to be part of the worldwide Scouting and Guiding family, I love giving back to something I loved as a child, and I love making new friends and trying new adventures, and watching my Cubs and Scouts do the same. Almost every country worldwide has some form of Scout movement. I’m sure most of my readers will have been a member of Scouting or guiding at some point in their lives.

Why not leave me a comment telling me what you enjoyed, and et’s all share memories of happy Scouting times.

I have had several opportunities lately to further my knowledge on the subject of small children. I have now properly met my niece (who is a very cute baby) and today I got to hang out with a friends 2 year old daughter, who seemed to like me. In the new year I will get to meet the 3 year old son of another friend (and her 6 and 11 year old girls) for a long weekend.

All there small children are making me feel somewhat broody (which I thought didn’t generally happen till you were at least 30) .

I don’t know if I’m as ‘ready’ as I could be though. My friend today told me I will make a great mum when the time comes (which made me smile) Plus kids are cute and fun and silly, okay sometimes they can be little terrors, but mostly they seem to get along okay with me.
